Log for Saturday September 8 Hello, My Name is Linda Sciaroni and I teach at Waimea Canyon Middle School on Kaua'i. This week I am going on a grand adventure aboard the Research Vessel Kilo Moana. I have wanted to travel on a ship such as this ever since I was very small and used to watch Jacques Cousteu movies with my parents. I grew up in San Pedro, California at Los Angeles Harbor. Many of my friends' parents worked at various seagoing careers such as tug boat captains, tuna fisherman, and radio operators for Matson. When I was in high school I volunteered at the Cabrillo Marine Museum. Over the next month we hope to awaken in you the same love of the sea. We will be using the Jason 2 Submarine to collect rocks, map data and take videos of the ocean floor surrounding Kauai, the island I live on. I look forward to looking across the sea and seeing our precious island from all sides. Today I was assigned a room and moved in. We plan to leave tomorrow at 8 am. Today everyone is checking the equipment and stowing all the gear. My children took a little tour of the ship. One of the claws on Jason 2 had a boxing glove on it.
