Meet the Scientists and Crew!

Ines Garcia Nobre Silva

I am from Portugal and moved three years ago to Vancouver, Canada, to pursue my Ph.D. at UBC, with Drs. Dominique Weis and James Scoates, in isotope geochemistry. My project focuses on high-precision multi-isotope (Pb-Hf-Sr-Nd) study of stratigraphically controlled samples from two major mantle plume systems (Hawaii and Kerguelen). The aim is to contribute to our understanding of the compositional evolution of these two mantle plumes and of the mantle sources they sample. Ultimately, by comparing them, this will lead to a better understanding of the origin and evolution of compositional heterogeneities within the deep mantle.
