Kanaha Beach Park is the largest and most popular beach park on the North Shore of Maui. Groins divide the beach into three sections. The central section is the main recreational beach for the park and has a lifeguard tower. The eastern half of this section is the main swimming area and has a floating swimming net to keep wind surfers out. It is recommended that swimming be done earlier in the day as conditions are usually calmer and windsurfing is permitted only after 11 am. Later in the day trade winds and associated swells increase in strength and windsurfers are frequent, making swimming possibly hazardous. Waves at the shore are generally small making this location suitable for swimmers with at least some experience. The groins and offshore reef may be sharp, slippery, and dangerous and should be approached with care. The park provides bathroom facilities and parking.
