The UH Marine Center is responsible for coordinating operations on and maintaining the 186’ SWATH (Small Waterplane Area Twin Hull) R/V Kilo Moana (KM) and the 223’ R/V Ka’imikai-O-Kanaloa (KOK). UH Marine Center facilities are currently located at Pier 45 in Honolulu Harbor, also known as “Snug Harbor”. These facilities include: pier space for the KM, KOK, visiting research vessels, and several smaller vessels; a machine shop; cranes; and storage facilities. Services provided by the Marine Center include: ship scheduling; provision of shipboard crew and technicians; engineering support; coordination of shared equipment such as underwater vehicles, submersibles, and small boats; and vessel chartering. In 2014 the Marine Center will be moving to new facilities at Pier 35 in Honolulu Harbor.

R/V KILO MOANA
The R/V Kilo Moana (Hawaiian for “Oceanographer”) is a 186’ Small Waterplane Area Twin Hull (SWATH) vessel owned by the U.S. Navy and operated by the University of Hawaii Marine Center. Because of her unique SWATH design, the Kilo Moana is a very stable and comfortable platform from which to conduct oceanographic research.
R/V KA IMIKAI-O-KANALOA
The R/V Ka’imikai-O-Kanaloa (Hawaiian for “Heavenly Searcher of the Sea”) is a 223’ single-hulled vessel now owned and operated by the University of Hawaii Marine Center. She was modified in 1993 to serve as the primary support ship for three submersibles, but also functions as a multi-purpose oceanographic research vessel.
