Small Boats

The UH Marine Center currently has three small vessels that are available for charter.

Ho’okele


Specifications:

  • Dimensions are 37’ x 16’ x 8’; it is rated at 31 gross tons and 25 net tons
  • Power: Twin inboard Lugger LP445D/J Deere diesel engines and it has a Northern Lights M673L 240 v – 6 kW auxiliary generator; electrical systems are 12 vdc and 110 vac.
  • Hull: Factory-molded FRP laminate with some coring.
  • Tanks: There is a single 500-gallon diesel fuel tank. Water tanks hold 300 gallons in 3 separate tanks.

The Ho’okele (Hawaiian for “Navigator”) is a Great Harbor N37 Trawler, built in 2002. It arrived in Hawaii in 2003 after a two-week crossing from Mexico and the story of its journey from Florida to Hawai’i can be found here. The Ho’okele is currently being used primarily for pelagic fisheries research at University of Hawaii, but is also available for charter.

  • 19′ Center console; twin 90HP Yamaha outboard engines; 85 gallon fuel tank; trailer; 6 dive tank racks; bimini top; bow towing post; stern rail; running lights
  • Electronics: GPS; VHF, Charting/Navigation display
  • Crew Capacity: up to 11 people
  • Load Capacity: 3200 lbs of personnel and equipment

Range:

  • Cruising speed: 12 knots (typical Hawaiian waters)

Rental Rates*:

  • Half-Day: $300 (4 hours or less)
  • Full-Day: $600 (4 to 8 hours)

  • Electronics: Garmin GPS, fathometer, VHF radio, 300W inverter for powering laptop computers
    Crew Capacity: up to 9 people
    Load Capacity: 2,000 lbs depending on type of materials and distribution
  • Small side-mounted davit, 100 lbs. safe working load

Range:

  • Cruising speed: 15 knots (typical Hawaiian waters)

  • Half-Day(4 hours or less)
    • $150.00 without operator
    • $350.00 with operator
  • Full-Day(4 to 8 hours)
    • $300.00 without operator
    • $700.00 with operator
