Daily Report for R/V Kilo Moana 2008 KM 0804 07 Noon Report 1200(-13) March 31, 2008 Noon Position: 20-33.6S 176-10.0W Fuel on board: 113296 gal Fuel consumed (24 hr): 1279 gal Potable water on board: 6801 gal WX Wind 145@8 kts, Combined Sea&Swell 135, 3-4 ft Barometer 1014.0 steady, Temp 82F, clear skies Last evening at 1924, due to a command and control issue which caused the vessel to engage the screws at 90 rpm astern, the towed array nearly impacted sea floor. Due to uncertainty of possible damage to associated components of the IMI-120, the decision was made to recover and inspect the assembly aboard. Once aboard, it was determined a weight and one mapper had been lost. The system was re-deployed early this morning with calibration runs completed at 0911. Presently paying out wire to position the array and continue with survey lines. Science party badly shaken by this very near miss. Have reverted to manual operation of throttle and heading control. ************************** KM 0804 06 Noon Report 1200(-13) March 30, 2008 Noon Position: 20-50.1S 176-12.1W Fuel on board: 114575 gal Fuel consumed (24 hr): 1387 gal Potable water on board: 7133 gal WX Wind 140@21 kts, Combined Sea&Swell 145, 4-6 ft Barometer 1010.8 rising slowly, Temp 83F, mostly clear with scattered clouds Working on 3rd line with all systems operating.
