The Senate State of Hawaii Recognizing Dean C. Barry Raleigh
Since its start in 1988, the University of Hawaii at Manoa's School of Ocean and Earth Science and Technology (SOEST) has grown to become one of the reeminent ocean, atmospheric, and earch sciences institutues in the country. The success of the SOEST is in no small part due to the efforts of Dean C. Barry Raleigh. For 14 years, SOEST operated under the steady hand of Dean Raleigh, and during that time, Dean Raleigh provided the school with outstanding leadership and played an instrumental role in shaping and guiding the SOEST to be the outstanding institution it is today. During his 14 years, Dean Raleigh solidified the school's presence by increasing the federal and state funding and contracts, increasing the number of full-time faculty positions, and the construction of the Pacific Ocean Science and Technology building. The Senate of the Twenty-Second Legislature of the State of Hawaii hereby recognizes and congratulates Dean C. Barry Raleigh for his contributions and dedication to bringing the University of Hawaii at Manoa to the forefront of ocean, atmospheric, and earth science studies, and extends its warmest Aloha and best wishes for the future.
