The Hanauma Bay Education Program is approaching its 14th year of operation. HBEP was created in order to educate the public on Hawaii's marine environment therebybutterfly fish enhancing appreciation and promoting understanding and stewardship of Hanauma Bay. Over the years, HBEP and its volunteers have received several recognitions, honors, and awards.

Today, education at the Bay is carried out by several paid staff and over 100 volunteers who greet visitors, show the park's mandatory educational film, staff information desks in the education center and at the beach kiosk, and conduct educational orientations for permitted groups. HBEP has several Programs covering topic areas such as marine ecology, marine biology, and geology. HBEP also reaches out to the public and sponsors a highly successful bi-monthly lecture series at the Bay through our Outreach Program.
