There are no accurate size data collected on the catches from this fishery aside from limited port sampling by the National Marine Fisheries Service, Honolulu Laboratory. The length frequencies presented here are from initial tagging work and are biased to the smaller size classes. However, the size ranges represented by the graphs are believed to be accurate representations of the sizes of each species potentially available to the fishery. It is generally acknowledged that the fishery lands large numbers of juvenile tuna between 10 and 35 pounds which are well below the age of sexual maturity

These fish are probably one to two years old, well below the age of sexual maturity.
