Support the PFRP

Fun in the Sun photo by William Boyce, www.boyceimage.com The PFRP will not be issuing a request for proposals to fund new projects for the second consecutive year. Our allocation was cut by 15% in FY2006 and by an additional 50% FY2007, so that we are currently operating at less than half of our usual budget.

Funding for the PFRP comes through congressional earmarks, and the prospects for FY2009 are not good. The current turmoil over earmarks in Congress and general restrictions on the federal budget raise the possibility of further budget cuts for the PFRP. To make matters worse, the Government may operate under a continuing resolution in FY2009.

Congress needs to know that the PFRP plays a unique and valuable roll in providing scientific support for the managements of fisheries for highly migratory species.
Please support the PFRP by contacting members of your congressional delegation and the University of Hawaii administration. Mahalo nui loa
