Ala Wai Entrance Survey

 

This mission one of an ongoing series of surveys conducted in the area outside of the Ala Wai Canal for plume monitoring. The vehicle was deployed near the Kilo Nalu 10m site and headed east conducting the survey and returned back to the starting location with an offshore transect. The mission was designed to allow the vehicle collect surface data on most legs and collect data from the surface to the seafloor on the boundary legs and the center leg. The vehicle used GPS to navigate and completed the mission in 2 hours 20 minutes covering a total distance of 15.33km. Data collected includes bathymetry, currents, acoustic backscatter, chlorophyll, optical backscatter, salinity and temperature. This survey was conducted just after a significant rain event to monitor the effects of a storm on the Ala Wai plume and surrounding waters.
