  • Transportation Information update (June 24, 2012)
  • Dear all participants,
    There will be shuttle service to and from conference site for 3 days: June 27, 28, 29.
    The shuttle bus (Yellow School Bus) schedule is as follows:
    Date Pick-up from Hotel Drop-off to Hotel
    Wednesday, June 27 7:45 am 8:15 pm (after TECO reception)
    Thursday, June 28 7:45 am 8:45 pm (after conference dinner)
    Friday, June 29 7:45 am & 8: 15 am 5:45 pm
    We also will have a 7-passenger van to pick spouses who is coming to the conference functions.  The schedule is as follows:
    *          Wednesday, June 27 – 5:15 pm pick-up from hotel to TECO reception
    *          Thursday, June 28 – 5: 00 pm pick-up from hotel to EWC conference venue

  • Transportation Information Update (June 22, 2012)
  • The conference has arranged shuttle service between the Ramada Plaza Waikiki Hotel and the UHM campus during the conference. The morning pick up time is 7:45 am for June 27 and 28; 8 am for June 29.

  • For those staying at UH conference housing, please note that check in at the front desk of Frear that is open from 9am-9pm daily. If you arrive after 9pm there is an on-call number that you can call to check in but all check-ins are scheduled for 2pm-9pm any time outside of these hours and there is a $25.00 early/late check in fee.

  • The Big Island pre-conference field trip will occur. If you buy your own airline ticket between Honolulu and Hilo via your travel agent in Taiwan, the costs of the field trip will be reduced to $390 instead of $600.     The Ramada Plaza Waikiki will give the participants TECO room $90.00 PLUS Tax. Add $5.5 per person for breakfast. About the room type, unless participants mentioned two people, it will be one King bed room.     SMA Obersertory: the Submillimeter Array, which is a joint project between the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory and the Academia Sinica Institute of Astronomy and Astrophysics and is funded by the Smithsonian Institution and the Academia Sinica. KECK Observatory: W. M. Keck Observatory has the world’s largest optical and infrared telescopes. Please check website: www.keckobservatory.org for more information.

    Cost Per Person: $600 per person Minimum/Maximum: 10/25 persons Coverage: HNL-Hilo-HNL roundtrip airfare, one night lodging, tour guide and pickup and drop off at Hilo airport.

     

  • Accommodation Information Update(April 5, 2012)
  • The conference has booked 20 single rooms with private bath at the University of Hawaii conference/summer housing during 26-30 June. The rate is about $60/night including breakfast. If you would like to reserve one of those rooms, please email hawaiiconference2012@gmail with Subject: Housing, before April 25. The unused rooms will be released after April 25. If you would like different types of rooms, different meal plans or different dates, you will have to book with UHM summer/conference housing directly.

  • Accommodation Information Update(March 30, 2012)
  • As of March 30, 2012, for East-West Center housing, only single dormitory rooms with shared bath are available.  Reservations for the East-West Center Housing dormitory rooms with shared bath (Hale Manoa or Hale Kuahine single rooms at $27 per night per room) need to be made before April 25 noon Taiwan Local Time and by sending an email to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . Individuals are required to pay for their room charges upon check-in. MasterCard, Visa, Diners Club, Discovers, and JCB credit card, traveler's checks and personal checks (US dollars), and cash are accepted. Personal checks must be payable to the East-West Center and for the exact amount only. Third party checks are not accepted. Need to bring your own towel and toilet items.

    The cancellation policy is:
    59 to 30 nights prior to arrival, 1 night charge per room cancelled.
    within 30 nights prior to arrival, 2 nights charge per room cancelled.
