American Samoa: The total rainfall of 36.73 inches in American Samoa during the first quarter of 2005 was normal (100%). Rainfall at Pago Pago could have been much higher had major Hurricanes Olaf, Nancy or Percy passed only 100 miles or so closer. The Manua Islands (Ofu, Olosega and Ta’u) to the east of Pago Pago were hit almost directly by Olaf, and experienced great destruction from high winds, and enormous waves.
