Services Available

The SOEST Library is an earth science collection emphasizing Hawaii/Pacific geology, volcanology, and marine geology and geophysics, with some oceanography and meteorology reference materials and journals available.

Holdings include print journal subscriptions, books and reports, the HIG Technical Reports(download list as a Word document or PDF) series, maps, theses from the Department of Geology and Geophysics, serial volumes from DSDP, ODP, AGU, AAPG, and GSA, and journals by gift and exchange.

Lending policy: Books, reports, reprints, and maps may be checked out for one month by SOEST faculty, staff, graduate students, and undergraduate students enrolled in geology or meteorology courses. Checkout policy for reserved materials for specific classes vary. Journals may be checked out for 2 hours for photocopying.

Other services include the (un-networked) computerized catalog of SOEST Library books, reports, and journals.

Electronic Journals and Databases Available (SOEST and UH)

For users of online journals: Start with this comprehensive, easy-access link to UH/SOEST online materials. Use it for fast access to available full-text journals (Science, Nature, and many Elsevier/Pergamon, Kluwer/ Springer-Verlag, AGU journals 1994-2006) or to browse the bibliographic databases (GeoREF, GEOBASE, Meteorological and Geophysical Abstracts, ASFA, Oceanic Abstracts, Web of Science, Science Citation Index, and Treatise on Geochemistry, vols. 1-9).

Access to these resources is restricted to .hawaii.edu domain users, who can also use the hawaii.edu dial-in access for most journals. You'll be asked to confirm your access with either UH_ID card barcode + last name or UH user name + password.
