Gakkel Ridge - SCICEX 1999

Gakkel Track map

Geophysical mapping of the western and central Gakkel Ridge was completed out to a distance of 50 km. on either side of the ridge axis to complement data collected during SCICEX '98. The Gakkel mid-ocean ridge has now been continuously mapped over seafloor formed at spreading rates ranging from 1.3 to 1.0 cm/year. Principal investigators for the project are Dr. James Cochran (Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory) Dr. Bernard Coakley (Tulane University), and Dr. Margo Edwards (University of Hawaii). In addition to the sidescan and bathymetry data presented on this website, high resolution CHIRP subbottom and gravity data are available as well.
