My main research focus is on mantle convection and lithosphere dynamics of Earth, terrestrial planets, and extra-solar planets.
To investigate planetary interiors, I use high-performance computing and a variety of geophysical and astronomical data.
Recently conducted projects include
the influence of continental roots on global patterns of plate motions,
tectonic regimes of exoplanets with extreme surface temperatures, and
thermo-chemical evolution of Earth's deep mantle.
I completed my
Ph.D. thesis
on geodynamics in 2008 at the Theoretical Geophysics department,
Utrecht University,
The Netherlands.
