I live in Manoa with my husband, Clint Conrad, and our family. In
addition to researching and teaching, I enjoy open ocean and pool long-distance swimming; the best nearshore surf reports are here:

I am fluent in Norwegian and I have lived in both Oslo and Copenhagen. My family emigrated to the U.S. from Askehaug, Norway in the early 1900s. My dog Coco is the 2nd place Amateur long-jump Dockdog in the state of Hawaii (2010) Watch Coco Jump!
I am involved with several charity organizations, including Chesapeake Bay Retriever Relief and Rescue.
My most notable media exposure was probably my CarTalk appearance in 1996.
I recently turned 29 for the 12th time.
