School of Ocean and Earth Science and Technology

SOEST is a premier academic institution for ocean- and earth- related research. At SOEST the faculty and staff conduct research over a broad range of research areas, many of which are multidisciplinary. Several hundred research projects are ongoing at any one time by SOEST researchers, who act as both primary investigators and supporting collaborators with other institutions.

Joint Institute for Marine and Atmospheric Research (JIMAR)

JIMAR was established to pursue the common research interests of NOAA and the UH in oceanic, atmospheric, and geophysical research, including climate and global change, equatorial oceanography, tsunamis, and fisheries oceanography.

Oceanography Research Division

The Oceanography Research Division of SOEST includes Physical Oceanography, Marine Geology and Geochemistry, and Biological Oceanography.

Hawaii Center for Volcanology

The Hawaii Center for Volcanology is a cooperative effort of research and teaching scientists within Hawaii, located in Honolulu at the University of Hawaii at Manoa on the island of O'ahu. Amongst other volcanoes, the HCV observes and studies volcanism on the big island of Hawaii.
