Observatory LAN

IP Switch:

There are four IP switches that make up the LAN (Local Area Network) of the Observatory. The four switches are configured to offer fault tolerance, which minimizes the need for system maintenance, and increased reliability in data communications.

  • Two eight port GarrettCom® P62F hardened Ethernet switches. The P62F has two fiber-optic ports, one single-mode using an SC connector, and the other is a multi-mode using an SC connector. The other six ports are electrical 10/100BaseT Ethernet ports.

  • Two eight port D-Link® DSS-8+ desktop 10/100BaseT Ethernet switches.

Port Server:

To accommodate experiments that use serial data communications the Observatory uses two Digi® PortServer TS 8 . The port server provides RS232 and RS422 serial-to-Ethernet connectivity for Observatory user ports.
