Communications Module:

The Communications Module is the interface between the cable and the Observatory that converts the fiber-optic signal to an Ethernet 100BaseT electrical signal.  Since most of the cost associated with the Communications Module are in the hybrid electrical/fiber-optic wet-mateable connectors, it was deemed  more cost effective to interface the junction box to the Observatory using an all electrical wet-mateable connector.

The Communications Module would consist of a MUX/DEMUX (Multiplexer/Demultiplexer) and a MODEM.

Power Module:

Most undersea cable systems use a constant current supply system, so a Power Module designed by SOEST/ESF for use in the ALOHA cable system will be used as an example. The shore power supply provides a constant current output of 1.6A to the supply module.
